Fair use policy

Meaningful messages, protected from misuse.

These limits keep iluvu dependable for real people and prevent automated abuse from consuming the service. Last updated 27 August 2026.

Local creation and online service are different

The £4.99 one-time unlock removes the local creation allowance on the platform where it was purchased. Capsules kept only on that device do not use iluvu online storage. The unlock does not include unlimited remote uploads, cloud storage, cloud backup or prepaid future delivery.

Ordinary online sharing limits

When you send or temporarily store a normal capsule through iluvu, the current fair-use limits are:

  • 25 new remote capsule uploads per device in a day.
  • 250 new remote capsule uploads per device in a calendar month.
  • Up to 1 GB of pending ordinary shared media per device at one time.
  • Up to 60 MB for capsule media, 5 MB for a preview image and 10 MB for a message attachment.
  • Short-term rate limits on upload attempts, device registration and repeated requests.

Received capsules and ordinary text messaging remain free, but automated or abusive traffic is never permitted.

How long ordinary shared files stay online

Ordinary shared capsule files are temporary. They may be removed 30 days after confirmed receipt and will normally expire no later than 90 days after upload. Save anything you want to keep on your own device. These retention limits apply to new uploads made after this policy takes effect.

Prepaid future delivery

A future-delivery item is separate from ordinary sharing. Where the app confirms that future delivery has been paid for and activated, that item is retained until its scheduled delivery date and for a limited collection period afterwards. A future item that is uploaded but not activated may be deleted after 24 hours. Product-specific duration, size and delivery limits shown at purchase also apply.

Cloud backup

Cloud backup is not included in the local lifetime unlock or ordinary sharing. If iluvu introduces an optional backup service, its own price, storage allowance and retention rules will be shown before purchase.

What is not fair use

Fair use does not include:

  • bots, scripts, scraping or other automated requests not provided by the app;
  • creating or rotating device identities to avoid a limit;
  • probing, attacking, overloading or attempting to bypass security controls;
  • uploading spam, unlawful material or content you do not have the right to use; or
  • using iluvu as general-purpose file hosting or commercial bulk delivery.

Protecting the service

We may slow, reject or remove requests and suspend a device or connection when reasonably necessary to protect users, availability or security. Limits may be adjusted as usage and costs become clearer. We will publish material changes here and aim to keep the app's wording consistent with this page.
